About JHDS Plumbing & Tiling

My name is Jonathan Horton and I run JHDS Plumbing & Tiling. I started out with my own business when the economy hit. Plumbing jobs became increasingly hard to get and wages were at an all-time low.

A Passionate Plumber

Having been in business for going on 10 years, I am more than happy with the choice I made. I became qualified as a plumber in 2008 after training for 3 years and 2 years on the job building my portfolio of evidence.

I have an SVQ2 in mechanical engineering services/plumbing domestic. I could have gone on to do my gas certificate but at the time I wasn’t looking to go down that route.

I had always been “pretty handy” with DIY and had been tiling and doing basic woodwork for years before. Mainly for friends and family. After growing in confidence and skill I decided to add it to my business services, but not before attending the tiling college outside Craigmillar to brush up on some of the more complicated aspects of being a tiler.

Re-grouting and Silicone Renewal

The re-grouting and silicone renewal service came soon after. I began to notice how visually off-putting the sight of black mouldy silicone and grout were, and how common it was to see in friends and family’s bathrooms. Even hotels and Bed and Breakfasts I have stayed in had discoloured grout and sealant. After some researching and a good few months trying to perfect the technique of getting the old stuff out, I was set. It seemed nobody else wanted to do this particular job and the calls started to come in.

Stirling Plumbing and Tiling Jobs

I try to concentrate on the smaller jobs the larger plumbing and tiling companies avoid, whether it be a tap washer, a regrout, tile repairs or fitting a full bathroom suite and accompanying tiling. There seems to be a niche for an honest, reliable plumber/tiler who will accept the smallest of jobs.

In today’s market, you really have to figure out what works for you and also what you feel happiest doing. The reason I love what I do is simple, seeing satisfied happy customers and reading happy customers reviews of my services. Obviously seeing the bank balance rise isn’t a negative, but I always remain honest and will always go the extra mile to see my customers happy. My wife says I sometimes go too far to make people happy but at the end of the day, making people happy is the greatest part of my job and I am very proud of my five-star reviews and a steady stream of recommendations from happy customers.
